BANGALORE: It is a general feeling that techies in the State have forgotten their culture and tradition and are fascinated by the Western life. But here is an exception to this notion.
A group of young techies across the State have come forward to teach Kannada to the non-Kannadiga young professional in Bangalore.

Perhaps, for the first time in the State, techies from Karnataka are all set to help non-Kannadigas in learning the language.

“Aviratha”, a team of professionals working in information technology and bio-technology, medicine and various other fields across the globe, has decided to start Kannada classes for those associated with IT, BT, business process outsourcing and other sectors.

For the past few weeks, members of “Aviratha” are engaged in preparing syllabus and texts for their ambitious programme.

The group members will approach the human resource divisions of multinational companies and software firms with a plan to hold free classes on their premises.

The group will also approach those interested in learning Kannada, through SMS and emails.

“First, we will hold Kannada speaking sessions, and later start Kannada learning classes. This is a unique initiative, but a much-needed one for non-Kannadigas living in the city,” says K.T. Sateesh Gowda, president of “Aviratha”.

“Aviratha has more than 500 members; most of them are techies. We are preparing a syllabus for the programme with guidance from Kannada lecturers. We are also planning to seek the help of retired Kannada lecturers,” Swathi Panidhar, executive member of “Aviratha”, said.
